The hospital I am a chaplain for (I am an ordained minister) withheld Social Security on my entire salary, including the housing allowance.
The IRS responded with a correction to add self-employment tax on the housing allowance to my total tax due.
I now understand from the information you provided on your site that I should have filed and paid self-employment tax on the housing allowance.
What happens to the Social Security tax that was paid on my housing allowance? Can I credit it against the SE tax I owe on my housing allowance?
